The City of Westfield Parks Department utilized land from an approximately 2-acre wetland mitigation site as a passive wetland park. Williams Creek Management provided design/build services for the park, which was developed with the intent of natural flood control and water quality improvement for Cool Creek. The project was privately funded by a local developer due to federally regulated wetland impacts.
Liberty Park was designed to allow floodwater from Cool Creek to enter the wetland, providing a place for sediment deposition, nutrient removal through the wetland anaerobic processes, and possible connection of fragmented ecological habitats that would allow for the re-establishment of valuable wildlife corridors.
Williams Creek provided turnkey wetland mitigation construction, installation, and long-term preservation services.
