As part of our client’s risk and asset management program, Williams Creek was contracted to install stabilization measures along the Whitewater River located near Brookville, Indiana. The river had shifted from its original path into the utility right of way and was threatening two 347 kV transmission towers. Prior to construction, the existing plans were value engineered by Williams Creek to provide our client with the most economical solution to meet project goals focused on stabilizing approximately 2200 linear feet of failing river bank and protecting the transmission towers from river encroachment.
Williams Creek safely constructed bank stabilizations utilizing Class 2 Rip Rap to hard armor the toe of slope and J-hook in stream structures to move the centerline away from the restored and protected bank. Above the river toe of slope, banks were heavily graded and stabilized using native seed installation measures and turf reinforcement mats to enhance the riparian corridor and ensure long-term project success.
Multiple years of permit success monitoring since construction has confirmed the erosion in the area has been eliminated and the centerline of the river has returned to a historical route, creating both a successful project for our client and an improved ecosystem for this area of Whitewater River.
